Mesquite Mantels

Our mantels are sawn from selected mesquite trees. We select for diameter, straightness and character. We air-dry the logs for 12-18 months before we rough cut the mantel. The mantels are square cut on the top, bottom and back. The face is left with the natural shape of the log. The bark and sap wood are then removed from the face to reveal the character and the rich , reddish brown wood of the mantel. Mesquite wood has cracks and blemishes which are characteristic of mesquite. The cracks are filled with epoxy which when dried and sanded become like a jewel embedded in the wood. The sanding process is continued (including the face) until the whole mantel is smooth and ready to have the finish applied. We use Minwax stain or polyurethane finish. Our mantels are selected for rustic as well as elegant homes. The rich reddish brown color and the character of the face are favorites with all who see them. Home builders and designers desire them because of the unique character . Each mantel is one-of-a-kind.
